Laboratory testing is critical to the fight against diseases like HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. But in rural sub-Saharan Africa distance, geography and lack of transport means that testing facilities are not easily accessible and that patients can be waiting months to recieve their test results - often with tragic consequences.

Although 90% of Riders for Health's vehicles are motorcycles, ambulances and other four-wheeled vehicles are just as important. In this edition of Riding High we share the story of one health centre in the Gambia that was forced to rely on old vehicles to transport patients to hospital for specialised care, with no spare parts or servicing. Since 2009, every health centre in the Gambia has had an ambulance and each ambulance is regularly maintained and fuel is provided. Across the Gambia, local communities can be sure that an ambulance will be there if they need it. This would not have been possible without your support.
